Some people experience improvements within the first week of treatment, while others see improvements within the first few weeks.  NiteCAPP provides 4 treatment sessions that are typically administered one a week for 4 weeks. The vast majority of individuals experience significant improvement after 4 sessions. Those improvements can last for years. People who have completed CBT-I often report that the time spent learning and practicing new sleep habits was well worth it.

CBT-I does not involve the usage of any medication. Instead, CBT-I focuses on targeting the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to chronic insomnia. In short, CBT-I helps to identify poor sleep habits and replace them with habits that facilitate sleep.

Eighty percent of people experience significant improvements in their sleep following CBT-I. Those who are consistent with their treatment and follow the instructions given in each session tend to see the best results.

NiteCAPP was developed by a team of healthcare researchers and professionals led by Dr. Christina McCrae at the University of Missouri.  Dr. McCrae is a clinical psychologist certified in behavioral sleep medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. She has over 20 years experience treating individuals with chronic insomnia. NiteCAPP is based on an effective non-pharmacological treatment called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).  The American College of Physicians recommends CBT-I as the frontline treatment for adults with chronic insomnia.

Each week your therapist moderator will provide you with personalized feedback based on the information you provide in your sleep diaries.  If you need assistance with any other part of the NiteCAPP program, or have a question, you can reach out to your therapist moderator at any time through the website contact tab.
